Why our live Sunday services will start at 9:30am
Our live Sunday services will start at 9:30am from this Sunday (17th May 2020). This is a change from what we’ve been doing since lockdown began and this is why.
When lockdown started we planned for 21 days. We wanted to make as little change as possible. Before lockdown our services were 8:30am and 10:30am. So by uploading a prerecorded sermon at 8:30am we hoped for continuity.
Then lockdown extended. And our 21-day plan has become… Well, we need a new plan because we don’t know how long this is going to go on for. We have a desire for community, for fellowship. A desire to gather together as best as we can for worship, for teaching. A desire to reach out to our city with the gospel message. And so we’ve moved from a prerecorded sermon to a live Sunday service.
We’ve listened to our members and visitors and paid attention to our online behaviour. Over the past two weeks we’ve had requests for a later start time. It would seem that while many tune in at 8:30am on Zoom many tune in a little later on YouTube and Facebook.
Another factor influencing the time is the curfew. Under level 4 lockdown regulations outdoor exercise is limited between 6:00-9:00am. Movement is also limited to a 5km radius from home.
We want to promote healthy bodies, minds and spirits. Health is an important dynamic over this period. A 9:30am services gives our members and visitors time to exercise before the live Sunday service starts.
Before we moved to two services, 8:30am and 10:30am, we had one 9:30am service. It seems best while we have one live Sunday service during lockdown that we move back to a 9:30am service.
We are the church. And we want as many of us as possible to be able to gather together for the live Sunday service. Please do join us this week. You can participate or watch the live Sunday service.
God’s Word is life changing! This Sunday we’re in Ecclesiastes.
