Church Update – Passionate Evangelism (October 2019-September 2020)
Reaching Benoni and beyond with the message of the Gospel is our mission.
Schools Outreach: Before lockdown, we reached children in our suburb through schools. We had weekly preaching opportunities at Jahari Christian Academy and Crystal Park High School. We preached at Crystal Park Primary School and Noorderlig Gekombineerde Skool. Partnering with The Gideons we placed Bibles at the schools above as well as Prestige College Crystal Park. Clinic Outreach: Before lockdown, we preached to patients and staff in the mornings. We also ran a monthly soup kitchen. First Responders: Before lockdown, we hosted the weekly Community Police Forum meeting. We also hosted patrollers meetings and community meetings from time to time.
But those opportunities dried up when lockdown started. We have been able to maintain relationships with our community partners. Schools: We partnered with Midrand Chapel and distributed Welcome Back to School packs. Clinic: We gave gift bags to all the staff (and first responders in our church) at Crystal Park Clinic. First Responders: Crystal Park Police Station needed to sanitise the station and moved the charge office to the church. We have a new opportunity to preach at the EMPD Traffic Academy.
Street Preaching: Since lockdown level 1, Craig has led teams from Crystal Park Baptist Church Benoni, Northmead Baptist Church and Benoni Bible Church to various areas in Benoni on Saturdays. Door to Door: Craig has also led teams evangelising our suburb on Sundays.
Social Media: We’ve been improving our social media communications to our website and Facebook. We are seeing more engagement and some visitors from his efforts. Google: Sifiso has helped us leverage a grant to place effective adverts on the platform. Again we are seeing some visitors from our efforts. Streaming: The streaming of our Sunday service, Wednesday Bible study and Thursday Bible study is as much for the edification of our members as it is for evangelism in our city.
Visitor Care: Before lockdown, we hosted around 6 visitors per week. Since lockdown level 1, we have around 10 first time visitors every Sunday morning. Door Greeting: Tshepo has been coordinating this ministry. He has improved our registration process and capturing of visitor information.
Baptisms: We baptised 3 people into membership this year. Our ratio of baptisms to membership remains around 50%.
Staff Intern/Church Planting: Our primary mechanism for church planting is to partner with Christ Baptist Seminary. The elders define the responsibilities of staff interns, the primary activity being continued theological study and the gaining of practical experience for the equipping to future pastoral ministry. This year we were happy for have Tladi Dire serve in this capacity. We hope to grow this program in 2021.
