Biblical Teaching

Best FREE online Ecclesiastes commentaries (17th February 2020): Ever sat in church, listened to the sermon, got excited about God’s Word, and then wanted to dig into it by yourself but you weren’t sure where to get started? A Bible commentary is a great tool to get you started. Commentaries are written, systematic series of explanations and interpretations of Scripture. They often analyze or expound on individual books of the Bible, chapter by chapter and verse by verse. We’re going through the book of Ecclesiastes at the moment and I wanted to share how you could access useful content for your own study. Precept Austin is a trusted collector and sharer of Bible commentaries. Download the commentaries here, read some and give us some feedback.

Got Questions Ministries (24th February 2020): What does the Bible say about women pastors? What does the Bible say about homosexuality? Is it a sin? What does the Bible say about tattoos? Can a Christian lose salvation? Masturbation – is it a sin according to the Bible? Those are the top 5 questions asked on the website Got Questions. They’ve got short, easy to read answers for those questions, and 6,800 more. Whether you want to know the answer to What does the Bible say about interracial marriage? or Who was Cain’s wife? GotQuestions probably has an answer you’d be helped by. Access the content here, read some and give us some feedback.

Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God – Jonathan Edwards (2nd March 2020): I’ve listened to hundreds and hundreds of sermons. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God stands out as unique. It’s so gripped my mind and stuck in my memory because of the vivid imagery of Hell. The poignant observations of the world and faithful use of Scripture are masterful. The underlying point is that God has given humans a chance to confess their sins. It is the mere will of God that keeps wicked men from the depths of Hell. This act of restraint has given humans a chance to believe and trust in Christ. Download the sermon here.

The New City Catechism (2nd April 2020): The New City Catechism is a modern-day resource aimed at helping children and adults alike learn the core doctrines of the Christian faith via 52 questions and answers. The app has added a children’s mode with kids songs for each question. Link to the New City Catechism here. Are you using this or another catechism with your family? We’d love to hear feedback.

Sermons by John MacArthur (2nd April 2020): I’m sure that John MacArthur has been the preacher I have listened to most. He is a master of Biblical exposition. His sermons are content-rich and will certainly expose you to Biblical truth one verse at a time. Link to sermons by John MacArthur.

Sermons by John Piper (2nd April 2020): John Piper is a good balance to John MacArthur. It’s not as if he lacks in Biblical exegesis, but he adds passion. Lots of passion. Passion for God’s glory. Link to sermons by John Piper here.

Sermons by Alistair Begg (2 April 2020): Alistair Begg is a faithful exegete with excellent pastoral delivery. He has a funny Scottish accent and a really wholesome sense of humour. Link to sermons by Alistair Begg here.

9Marks Journals (2nd April 2020): For the keen student of theology, and ecclesiology in particular. There are journals on subjects like Penal Substitutionary Atonement, Complementarianism, Ecclesiology for Calvinists, Church Discipline, Confessions, Covenants, and Constitutions, Prosperity Gospel and many, many more. Link to the 9Marks Journals here.

Fervent Worship

Do You Pray? – J.C. Ryle (3rd February 2020): This useful little book was recommended by Nan. It could be a good book to give to a friend who’s thinking about Jesus or examining their faith or a great book to stir your own heart. Download the book here, read it and give us some feedback.

Sovereign Grace Music (2nd April 2020): Sovereign Grace Music have spent 30 years of producing Christ-exalting songs + training for local churches from local churches. We sing many, many of their songs in our corporate worship. Link to the songs of Sovereign Grace Music here. Which is your favourite?

CityAlight (2nd April 2020): The sound of a church singing has preceded almost every great revival in church history. The church is God’s witness and representative on earth. Is there any wonder that a tremendous power comes about when the representative voice of God in the earth is singing. Link to the songs of CityAlight here.

Getty Music (2nd April 2020): Keith and Kristyn Getty occupy a unique space in the world of music today as preeminent modern hymn writers. In re-inventing the traditional hymn form, they have created a catalogue of songs teaching Christian doctrine and crossing the genres of traditional, classical, folk and contemporary composition which are sung the world over. Loving Fellowship

9 Marks of a Healthy Church – Mark Dever (10th March 2020): I was chatting to Katleho this morning. He wants to start a discipleship relationship with a friend and was wondering how to kick it off. Are you thinking of the same thing? Here’s a way to get started: Find a book you can both work through. The Gospel of John, reading material about parenting, finances, marriage or work. Speak to an elder for suggestions. A good pace is one chapter per week. Meet together for dinner during the week or lunch after the service on Sunday or for a cup of coffee. Converse through a chapter. Pray together. That’s it. Simple. If you have a friend that you’d like to expose to core principles then 9 Marks of a Healthy Church is a great place to start. It covers preaching, theology, the Gospel, conversion, evangelism, church membership, church discipline, discipleship and church leadership. That’s the book I recommended to Katleho and I’m excited to hear how things go. Download the book here, read it and give us some feedback.

Passionate Evangelism

prayercast.com (2nd April 2020): Etienne writes, “I would like to point you to the website prayercast.com. It is a website that is dedicated to missionally praying for the countries of the world. Christian Life

The Pilgrim’s Progress Audio Book – John Bunyan (10th February 2020): I love books. But I don’t always have time to read books. Are you in the same position? I’ve found audiobooks to be very helpful. In the car on the way to work. In the car on the way to holiday. At home with the family in the lounge in the evening after supper. At gym. There are plenty of places where you can access a good audiobook. Let me commend The Pilgrim’s Progress to you. After God’s Word, alongside The Valley of Vision and Foxes Book of Martyrs, no book has affected my walk as much. Download the audiobook here, listen to it and give us some feedback.

Prelude to Giving (Part 1 of 2) – Alistair Begg (6 February 2020): We tend to consider our personal finances a private matter. How we steward our money, though, is actually a reflection of our theology. Join us as we learn to glorify God with our wealth, on Truth For Life with Alistair Begg. Download the sermon here, listen to it and give us some feedback.
